Who do I contact with random questions that are not related to Artery?
Dial 311 (Out of province? dial 1-780-442-5311)
Do I need volunteers or to bring additional staff?
You will need:
• At least one person (and float) to work the box office of your event (unless you opt in to the Artery provided door person for $75)
• Someone to do the organizational and promotional work (this could be done by you)
• Someone to sell merchandise (if applicable)
• Someone to help with load in and out/clean up
What does my promotions package include?
Artery takes event promotions very seriously. Unless people hear about an event, they will not come. We try to help you out with promotions, but you must work on promotions yourself if you want your event to be a success. Below is a list of things that we do for you:
• We will try to encourage our media friends to cover your event (this only works sometimes)
• We will invite our friends to your facebook event (if we can!)
• We will promote your event on our website
• We will put up posters in Artery advertising your event (if provided with your poster).
• We will list your event on the public Artery google calendar
• We may tweet about your event
Please note: Artery will only promote your event if you meet our deadlines and requirements. We will not promote an event if we do not have sufficient information or media.
How can I make my event a success?
Follow the instructions on the promotions page!
At Artery, we do everything we can to make your event wildly successful. Nonetheless, the success of your event depends heavily upon the effort you are willing to put into it. Included in the promotions package will be a list of items we need from you (pictures, media quotes, links etc.) and a list of things you can do to bring more people out.
What does it all mean?
Start with these three habits: go to the library; seek out your living elders and hang out with them; spend a little time being still and breathing everyday.
Is my booking confirmed?
Your booking is confirmed when you have filled out the rental form, rental contract, and we have received the damage deposit.
Is the nonrefundable security deposit refundable?
Nope. It is non-refundable, even if your band breaks up. Make a new band. You might surprise yourself. You can’t get a refund on that hundred smackers even if it is the apocalypse. Money shouldn’t matter at that point anyway.
How much is the nonrefundable security deposit? How can I pay it? When do I need to pay it?
The deposit is $100 and there are a couple of ways to pay:
1) You can ask us for a paypal invoice, then pay through paypal.
2) You can mail us a cheque addressed to noiselab industries.
3) You can play postman and put your cheque (in an envelope please) through our mailslot.

When do I pay the remainder of the rental fee?
If you are eager, you can pay it right away. Otherwise, you must pay it at the end of the evening on the night of your event.
Who is in charge of cleaning up after my event?
We are happy to help maintain a tidy environment and clean up after your event. That said, if you are inviting special friends who love fake blood, friends who spill wine everywhere, or friends who like to break bottles, you are going to be responsible for that special mess.
Is there a Green Room, or separate area for the musicians to hang out in?
You can add the Green room to your rental for $50. If you like privacy, it is an add-on that is worth getting. It is a private and beautiful space right above the venue. During the day, the green room is a dance studio and has beautiful polished floors. We will ask you to remove your shoes before entering that space.
All ages: Do I have to do something special for my show?
Yes! We love all ages shows at Artery. It is really nice to be inclusive. However, there are a few things that change.
1) All ages shows end at midnight (because kiddies and teens need sleep).
2) You must provide bracelets for all ages shows. This makes it very easy to spot small children who are trying to sneak a sip. You can buy event bracelets at party supply stores. They are also available online if you are organized enough to get them early. If you forget, we will add some to your invoice. They are expensive to buy from us ($30). Please don’t buy them from us.
Does the rental price include insurance?
Yes!
What is your capacity?
149 people. That is 149 breathing humans in total.
Can I sell advance tickets?
We offer advance e-tickets though YEG live.
If you want paper tickets, they can set that up for you too. Just email cameron@yeglive.ca.
Do you have internet available?
Yes.
Does Artery have a PA?
Yes. The PA is excellent for a small club:
Two main speakers, Yorkville Unity U215 flown from the ceiling, cover the room well, wired as Left & Right.
Allen & Heath Mixwiz2 16-channel analog mixer in back of room facing the stage.
Snake 16+4 channels from stage to mixer
4 monitor speakers on 2 channels
1 extension speaker in back room
Lots of SM58 vocal mics, SM57 instrument mics, decent kit of drum mics including Beta52 for kick drum.
2 active DIs, 2 passive DIs.
Mic cables, guitar cables & patch cords, guitar stand, stool.
extension cords and power bars all over the stage.
One black shaggy drum carpet.
Simple stage lighting controlled from the mix position
one Martin Fx light, one MIRROR BALL (Yay, it’s a party!)
Does Artery have a backline available?
No.
Do you have a multimedia digital projector? Can I use it?
Yes, you are absolutely allowed to use it.
If you are planning on using your computer, you will need a VGA converter cable to connect it to your computer. We have a dvd player and a VHS player already connected.
Tell us in advance what you want to play (film or slide show) and what format you have it in (e.g. .avi, jpeg or vhs) and we will assess the situation.
Can we bring in 5 televisions/decorations/a fake pony/an accordion?
Yes. Please take your things with you when you go. If you think your decorations/possessions/instruments might abnormal and unprecedented; are alive and not human; or are dead, please mention them in advance.
Can I have a bonfire? Can we put candles on the tables?
No. Sorry. Unless you get very secure lanterns that are drunk-person-proof you can’t have fire. Even if you did get yourself some drunk-proof lanterns, it would be a conversation we would need to have 6 weeks before your event.
Can we get catering for our event?
Yes. Catering must be arranged at least a week before your event. Just make a selection from here, and order it from the manager. The online menu can be found here: http://theartery.ca/artery-fallwinter-menu/
Will you provide a sound person?
We do provide a sound person (for a fee) if you need one. If you desire a particular sound person (who works at Artery) let us know. If you have a specific sound that you are used to (or if you are very demanding) please bring your own sound person.
I want to record my show. Is this possible?
It is tricky, but possible to get a mono recording feed from the mixer at Artery. It is up to you!
The mixer is an Allen & Heath Mix Wiz2 model WZ16:2DX. Our auxiliary outputs 5 & 6 on the back are not currently used. They have 1/4″ connectors. Most laptops have a 3.5mm stereo input jack, the same connector as a small headphone plug.
You need a cable with two 1/4″ TS plugs on one end and a 3.5mm stereo plug on the other, which is available at Long & McQuade Music, 10204 – 107 Avenue (lots of other places, too). Once you get Aux 5 & 6 connected to your laptop, you need an audio recording program on the laptop. If you don’t have one, I recommend Audacity. It’s available for free at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
On the mixer, you need to turn up all the channels that you want to record on Aux 5 & 6 – the yellow knobs on each channel. You set the record level on the Aux 5 & 6 send knobs on the right – also yellow. Make sure that the effects return (ST1) is turned off.
Can we get some free drinks?
No. Sorry. We do offer discounted drinks (in the form of drink tickets) to the promoter (to dispense at their discretion) on the night of the event.
We want to have a karaoke night. Do you have any gear?
We are fully set up for karaoke, we have the machine, mics, and the big screen.
Do you have turntables?
No. But you are welcome to bring in your own.
Can we leave our gear in Artery overnight?
No, sorry. We have many things happening at the Artery at all sorts of odd hours (rehearsals and the like) and we try to offer each group their own time in the space, unhindered by other people’s drum kits and guitar stands. Also, we (Artery staff) have all decided to stop leaving our lovely Sunday brunches and Saturday picnics and Monday toboggan sessions. Sorry, friend, but the convenience of leaving your stuff comes at the cost of someone else’s time.
Does the sound system include music that would be played throughout the event or do we have to bring our own music?
We have a sound system set up, and we may have on hand some CDs and personal Mp3 players. That said, it is best when you bring in a mp3 player or mix CD(s) that are appropriate for your event.
I want to change some stuff last minute. Can I do that?
Please don’t. Some things can be changed easily, but it causes unnecessary confusion. We charge a last-minute-changes-fee to discourage that.
Is there a Cash Bar?
Yes. (Unless you are renting the space as a ‘rehearsal’ space or ‘bare-bones-rental’) We own and operate the bar and take all profits from it.
Is Artery wheelchair accessible?
There are two major accessibility issues at Artery. One is the raised main door (easily remedied by allowing certain people special access to the step-free Jasper entrance).
The second issue is the washroom. It is small and difficult to navigate. We have not yet been able to figure out a way to make that work.
My event will take longer than the regular rental perimeters (earlier or later). How much will this cost?
You may occupy Artery for a maximum of 8 hours (25$ per extra hour)
An ordinary (weekend: Friday & Saturday) rental breaks down like this.

An ordinary (weekday) rental breaks down like this.

9:00 First Act
10:30 Second Act
11:30 Headliner

Does it cost extra to have the cantina open?
Yes, unfortunately we have to charge to have the cantina open. It is a minimal fee.
Where can we park? Where can our guests park?
Parking is free on Jasper after 6pm.
We don’t want to rent the space. We want you to book us!
We don’t really do that. Ok, you got us, sometimes we do…when we have a personal interest in a musician, but it is pretty rare.
So you still want us to book you? Convince us that we will like you (with your music, not your words) and convince us that people will come out. Create a facebook event, and invite all your friends. Show us that you can bring in 140 people.
How much time do I have Artery for?
From set up to tear down. This is usually from 6pm on weekends//8pm weekdays to around 1am (sometimes a little earlier or later).
What do I need to bring to my event?
The three things that are important and are sometimes forgotten are: a box office person, a float (for any event with a cover charge or merchandise sales) and bracelets (for all ages events).
How do I get a float? How much should I bring?
Getting a float is easy. You just go to a bank and get some change.
How much? More is better when it comes to floats. We might even buy it off of you if you get too much. I recommend you have a minimum of $200 in fives, $100 (four rolls) of loonies, and $100 (two rolls) of toonies. If you are selling merchandise, you might want to bring even more.
Want more details?Well, if your cover is an $7 and you sell 150 tickets at the door (and everyone pays with $20 bills) you will need 300 in $5 bills (you can get $10 bills, but $5 bills are more flexible) 150 toonies (3 rolls) and 150 loonies (6 rolls). This is a total of $1950, or a float of nearly $2000 dollars.
